Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time
ORDER OF WORSHIP. VIDEO. Livestream Mass Sun 9:30 AM via www.facebook.com/coksc/. As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in our area, we thank our vulnerable parishioners who are staying home for now. We care about your safety and well-being!
Weekend Mass Reservations
Click here to register for weekend Masses:
https://cok.flocknote.com/signup/12592.
Scheduled liturgical volunteers and their families are not required to register (they have already been counted). The Bishop's dispensation from Mass attendance remains in effect. Parishioners who are more vulnerable to serious complications from COVID-19 are encouraged to consult a physician before returning to Mass. Those who stay home may watch the livestream at 4 PM Saturday or 9:30 AM Sunday. Please understand that reservations from past weekends do not carryover -- parishioners must sign-up every weekend.
Owerri Mission Appeal
At all weekend Masses, August 22-23, Fr. Michael Okere will make a mission appeal on behalf of the Archdiocese of Owerri, Nigeria. The Archdiocese provides spiritual, pastoral, educational, healthcare, and emergency services to more than one million Catholics. Mission funds help to finance the training of seminarians and the rehabilitation of aging hospitals, churches, and schools. Christ Our King will offer a weekly tithe to the appeal. Parishioners who wish to contribute individually may place an additional check in the collection basket; the check should be made payable to Christ Our King, and the memo line should read "Nigeria Mission."
Renovation Update
Fr. Spencer and the Renovation Advisory Committee met via Zoom on Monday August 3rd. The Committee is currently evaluating letters of proposal from two highly-regarded liturgical design studios, one of which will be chosen to develop a master plan for renovating the church. The chosen studio will help to evaluate needs and involve parishioners in the process. Pledges continue to come in; to date, the parish has received distributions totaling $524,998. The initial Bicentennial Campaign improvement project will be the re-surfacing of the church parking lot. Fr. Spencer will meet with the Committee again at the end of August.
COK-SM School
Classes resume August 24 with a hybrid learning model for COVID-19. Staff and volunteers have been busy updating facilities and safety protocols.
Welcome, Fr. Fryml!
COK is blessed to welcome a third priest to the pastoral staff, Father Andrew Fryml. Fr. Fryml grew up in Spartanburg, completed his seminary training at St. Mary’s Seminary in Houston, Texas, and was ordained at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in 2017. He comes to us after three years of ministry in Columbia at the Basilica of St. Peter and at Cardinal Newman High School. Fr. Fryml's duties at COK will be limited, as he will also be serving as Chaplain for Bishop England High School and the College of Charleston. COK welcomes Fr. Fryml warmly!
Sacrament of Penance & Reconcilation
Confessions are heard on Saturday mornings from 8:30 until 9:30.
Faith Formation & Sacramental Prep
Do you have a child in K-12th Grade? New this year you just need to submit ONE online form for your entire family. You can sign your child up for CFF, Edge, Life Teen, or Sacramental Prep. Just click HERE to be directed to the form. You can also pay ONLINE this year too! Registration closes September 1st.
Mass Attendance during the Pandemic
If you are 65 or older, or if you feel sick, have a respiratory condition, or are immunocompromised, the CDC recommends that you continue to avoid crowds and public gatherings. Bishop Guglielmone's dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass remains in effect for those who wish to stay home for their own health and safety.
Storage Space for St. Vincent de Paul
The St. Vincent de Paul Society provides furniture and household items (dishes, linens, pot & pans, beds, sofas, etc.) at NO cost to those in need. The storage space currently used by St. Vincent de Paul will soon be occupied by ECCO, due to an increase in demand created by the coronavirus. St. Vincent de Paul needs a new location.
If you know of a space that could be used as a distribution center by St. Vincent de Paul (free of charge), please call Tom Couture at 843-364-7604. Thank you!
