Christ Our King seniors are vibrant and engaging and want to continue active lives. We are interested and interesting people who have chosen our faith community as the vehicle to share our times and talent with each other and the parish. Whether you are still working or traveling or your life is blessed with leisure and a slower pace, the Beach House is for you. At fifty-five you may not look or feel like a senior and at ninety you may have more energy than people half your age; your participation at any age will help define the identity of the Beach House.
Christ Our King Senior Ministry sponsors opportunities and events that empower vibrant senior to deepen their involvement in the life of the Church by participating in the various parish and outreach programs. Our outreach to the homebound and those in hospitals is always growing and in need of dedicated volunteers. Please answer this call to ministry! You time, talent and treasure is greatly appreciated.
Ongoing senior activities include Nifty Needles, Bridge, Exercise Class, Rosary Making, Sing-Alongs, Pinochle, Monthly Senior Pot Luck Luncheons, Health Seminars, Prayer Quilt Ministry, Cenacle, Thursday Drop-Ins, Monthly Movies, Sowing/Sewing, Wii, Lunch & Learn, and celebrations for Mardi Gras, Easter and the very popular Christmas Tea.
Ministry to the homebound elderly and residents in local nursing and retirement homes is an important service that we provide. It offers pastoral visits, liturgical celebrations, visiting programs and telephone contacts, as well as transportation for Sunday Mass and doctor and hospital appointments. Families are also provided with information about other services available to senior citizens and how best to access them. You do not have to be a senior to do this. We welcome and encourage adult parishioners to participate in ministry to the homebound and those in facilities.
It is the goal of this ministry to empower older, vibrant seniors to be leaders bringing about social change in our community. This can be developed through their deepening involvement in the life of the Church as they themselves participate in the various service opportunities available in the parish and in the outreach programs.
Eucharistic Minister to the Homebound and to Hospitals
Through this ministry participants have the privilege of being Church to someone who is ill or homebound and unable to share in the celebration of the Eucharist in Mass. It is a spiritually nourishing experience for both the minister and the individual you serve. Catholics in good standing are needed to meet the needs of faithful Catholics.
Weekly Teams to Area Senior Centers
The nursing home population is growing rapidly in the East Cooper area. Christ Our King services nine Mt Pleasant area nursing homes, assisted living facilities and retirement villages. Teams conduct Communion services, visit with the residents, conduct sing-a-longs, entertain and provide refreshments. Christmas parties and Easter baskets are provided for residents. Currently these teams are understaffed and are in great need of volunteers. Please email Marie Donnelly, Director of Senior Ministries or call the Beach House at (843) 884-0065 for more information.
