Mass Readings

Lector Reminders

  1. Substitutes
    • It is your responsibility to secure a substitute when necessary. The roster is available online.
  2. Readings
    • When introducing the reading, please pronounce the A in "A reading from ..." as a schwa (as in uh) rather than a long vowel (as in ay).
  3. Attire
    • Jacket and tie for men.
    • Nice dress, pants, skirt, etc. for ladies. No sleeveless shirts/dresses during the summer.
  4. Procedural notes
    • Always arrive at least 15-20 minutes early.
    • Sign in next to your name in the ministry sign-in book.
    • Always check in with the Presider to let him know that you are there and which lector you are (#1 or #2). Do not simply sign the book and sit down.
    • Review the lectionary version of your reading as soon as possible after signing in and vacate the altar before the prelude music begins.
    • It is appropriate to bow your head slightly upon conclusion of your reading and before returning to your seat.
    • Do not bow to Bishop Thompson, should he be presiding. This is appropriate only for a serving bishop.
    • Lector #2 should be sure to place the Lectionary on the left side of the ambo shelf after the reading.
    • If you are lector #2, please turn toward the priest while you recite the Creed. You should be facing the statue of the Virgin Mary.
    • If you are lector #1 at 10 AM Mass, be sure to wait until all of the commotion associated with Children's Liturgy of the Word has died down before beginning your reading.
    • We no longer process out after mass.
Thank you for the tremendous service that you are providing God and this parish community!
