Senior Ministry
Senior Ministry is designed to support the work of the parish in reaching out to members aged 55 and older. The ministy concentrates on direct services which emcompass working with the homebound elderly and residents in local nursing and retirement homes. It offers pastoral visits, liturgical celebrations, visiting programs and telephone contacts, as well as transportation for Sunday Mass and doctor and hospital appointments. Families are also provided with information about other services available to senior citizens and how best to access them.
There are, of course, a number of interesting activities on-going in the Christ Our King Senior Center. These include Nifty Needles, weekly excercise classes, bridge, pinochle, Wii, movies, cook outs and celebrations for Mardi Gras, Easter and the very popular Christmas Tea.
It is the goal of this ministry to empower older, vibrant seniors to be leaders bringing about social change in our community. This can be developed through their deepening involvement in the life of the Church as they themselves participate in the various service opportunities available in the parish and in the outreach programs.
Eucharistic Minister to the Homebound and to Hospitals
Through this ministry participants have the privilege of being Church to someone who is ill or homebound and unable to share in the celebration of the Eucharist in Mass. It is a spiritually nourishing experience for both the minister and the individual you serve.
Weekly Teams to Area Senior Centers
The nursing home population is growing rapidly in the East Cooper area. Christ Our King services nine Mt Pleasant area nursing homes, assisted living facilities and retirement villages. Teams conduct Communion services, visit with the residents, conduct sing-a-longs, entertain and provide refreshments. Christmas parties and Easter baskets are provided for residents.
Transportation Team
Participants are matched up with an individual who needs a ride. Rides are given to Mass and to appointments. It does not take much time and does so much for those who need help.
