Mass Readings

THE EASTER TRIDUUM
"The Three Days"

Lent ends quietly on Thursday afternoon. The church enters the Triduum (three days). On Thursday night the church begins a time of prayer and fasting, a time of keeping watch, that lasts into the great Vigil between Saturday and Sunday when the sacraments of initiation are celebrated. On Thursday night and on Friday the Church gathers to pray and to remember the many facets of the single mystery.

The Easter Triduum of the passion and resurrection of Christ is the culmination of the entire liturgical year. The solemnity of Easter has the same kind of preeminence in the liturgical year that Sunday has in the week.

Holy Thursday Evening
7:00PM Church

We begin the Easter Triduum with the evening Mass of the Lord's Supper. At this liturgy, we rejoice in the institution of the Eucharist. The focus of this night's liturgy is service.

Good Friday of the Lord's Passion
7:00PM Church

According to the Church's ancient tradition, Mass is not celebrated on Good Friday. The celebration of the Lord's Passion consists of three parts: (1) LITURGY OF THE WORD, (2) THE VENERATION OF THE CROSS, and (3) HOLY COMMUNION. This liturgy begins and ends in silence. This is partially because it is a continuation of Holy Thursday evening's Mass of the Lord's Supper that concludes the following evening with the Vigil of the Lord's Resurrection.

Holy Saturday Night: The Easter Vigil
7:00PM Church

The Easter Vigil is arranged in four parts: (1) after a brief SERVICE OF LIGHT, (2) the Church meditates on all the wonderful things God has done for his people from the beginning; THE LITURGY OF THE WORD. As the day of resurrection approaches, (3) new members of the Church are reborn in baptism and confirmed in the SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION, and lastly (4) the whole Church is called to the table which the Lord prepared for his people through his death and resurrection, the LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST.
