The King's Ringers - Christ Our King Handbell Choir

The History of the King's Ringers

The choir formed in 1995 with 3 octaves of bells and 10 members. Each year the choir has attended hand-bell workshops throughout the state while playing for masses at Christ our King and performing within the community. Public performances have included the 1998 Charleston Symphony Christmas Concert, the 1999 Hospice of Charleston Candelight Memorial Ceremony, 1999 American Sampler concert for Piccolo Spoleto and a 10 day concert tour of Ireland during the summer of 1999.

Not only was 1999 a busy performance year, but through the generosity of an anonymous donor, the choir was able to purchase a 3 octave hand chime set which sound wonderful and gave the ringers a new challenge of not only learning a new instrument, but a new technique. The choir continues to sharpen their skills, learning new ringing techniques and tackling ever more challenging music.

The year 2000 continued to be keep the choir busy with an encore performance of the American Sampler concert to a capacity audience which raised over $1500 and many bags of food for East Cooper Community Outreach.

The King's Ringers will  be participating in various community events this year.  The group will first participate in a community handbell concert on December 3 at Bethany Methodist in Summerville. The group  will be one of 5 solo choirs performing.  The choir will participate with the same group the first weekend in June for another workshop and concert.
Also look for the  choir this year as they perform for the Charleston Symphony Christmas concert as well as on masses at Christ our King throughout the year.
